Celtic have been shockingly linked with an ambitious loan move for the wantaway Manchester United midfielder in the January transfer window.

It is no secret that Celtic have made a terrible start to their season. The Hoops already find themselves chasing the Rangers in the Premiership, who enjoy a comfortable 11 point lead at the top of the table although they have played two games more. On top of that, Neil Lennon’s struggling side are also out of the Europa League as well as the League Cup.

As a result, the board are expected to respond in order to fix this mess that we are currently in. The first step surely would be to make a change in the manager and hope a new boss can steady the ship. But it is clear that the Hoops need reinforcements when it comes to players as well. For that, they will have to make good use of the January transfer window.

It is unlikely that they will have too much funds available to spend though due to the impact that the global pandemic has had on the finances of club’s around the world. Loan deals might not be out of question.

Today, they have been linked with one such loan deal in the form of wantaway Manchester United attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard. The English international has not been part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for quite a while now and it doesn’t look like things will change anytime soon.

His contract with the club expires at the end of the season but the Red Devils do have the option of extending it by a year. But Lingard is looking to leave the club in January in order to find some regular minutes. And as reported by TEAMtalk, Celtic are one of the teams who are considering making a move.

The report states though that a dozen other Premier League clubs are also interested as well as the Rangers. And how likely is it that the £100,000-a-week star will end up in Scotland? Probably not very.

He could certainly do a job for the Hoops if he does indeed end up coming though. But only time will tell whether there is any chance of that happening.
