Celtic have been tipped to make the big move in the January transfer window which is expected to solve some of their problems.

It is no secret that Celtic have a lot of problems right now. The Hoops have managed just two wins in their last eleven games. As a result, a lot of questions have been raised about the future of Neil Lennon at the club and many are surprised that he still has a job at Parkhead.

Last night’s 4-2 defeat at the hands of AC Milan away at the San Siro was not a surprise though. In fact, it was expected that the Hoops would lose the game judging by their recent performances. But their dominant display in the first 20 minutes saw them go 2-0 up and provided some hope to the fans, only for the defence to collapse after that and let in four goals.

One man who received a lot of criticism last night was Vasilis Barkas. The Greek goalkeeper has failed to settle in since joining Celtic from AEK Athens and it looks like the club could already be looking for a replacement.

Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph appeared to suggest that Celtic will be looking for a keeper in January:

And those sentiments were backed up by Michael Stewart, who even threw the name of Fraser Forster into the hat:

It is believed that Celtic always wanted to bring Forster back on another season-long loan from Southampton. But the move fell through when the Englishman apparently decided that he wanted to stay and fight for his place at St. Mary’s Stadium. As a result, the Hoops were forced to look for a replacement and decided to pay £4.5 million for the services of Barkas. It is safe to say that they have not seen much of a return on that investment yet.

There might be another opportunity to get Forster back in January though. He has not managed to make a single appearance for the Saints this season and it is unlikely that that situation will change anytime soon. And while he did reject a move to Parkhead in the summer, we might just have to do what is best for the club at the moment and give him another call.

It would be foolish to think though that everything will magically fix itself if Forster returns in January. There are a lot of issues at the club right now and it is unlikely that any player could get the season back on track single-handedly.
