Celtic have been handed a massive boost in their reported chase for former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.

Neil Lennon might still be the Celtic manager but at this point of time, it is hard not to feel like they are fighting a losing battle. The Hoops have managed to win just 2 of their last 10 games in all competitions. And with performances showing no signs of improvement, it feels like only a matter of time before the manager is shown the exit door.

If or when that happens though, the board must make sure that they hire the right guy for the job. They need someone who can steady the ship and then steer them to a historic 10IAR. And one name that has continuously been linked with the club is Eddie Howe.

But the two biggest questions surrounding the appointment of Howe are whether the board will show that kind of ambition and whether the Englishman will be interested in the Celtic job. If Gabriel Agbonlahor is to be believed though, one of those should not be a worry for the Hoops.

As reported by the Football Insider, the former Aston Villa striker said:

"“I’m sure Eddie Howe will be interested but I’m sure the Celtic board will want to choose someone who understands what Celtic is about, that they need to win titles.”"

Now, the board need to look past the idea that only a man with a long history with the club can do a job at Parkhead. If that was the case then there are not too many men better than Lennon for the job. But then we have seen how badly he has struggled to get the best out of the team in one of the most important seasons in Celtic history.

Howe certainly has the pedigree to do a job at the club. He might not have won any top division trophies in his career but he did carry Bournemouth from League Two to the Premier League and kept them there for five seasons. That is an extremely impressive feat.

At one point of time, he was linked with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United. And if he is really interested in coming to Parkhead, then the board should not think twice before getting him on board. He might be the long-term solution to our problems.
