There is some good news for Celtic as it looks like the player is finally set to make his return to action after suffering a long-term injury earlier in the year.

With a schedule as tight as that of Celtic, it is no wonder that a number of the players struggle with niggling injuries through the course of the season. That is both natural and expected. It is when a player suffers a long-term injury that it becomes a cause for worry.

That is exactly what happened with Mikey Johnston. The young winger was  expected to play a huge part for the Hoops last season with many even predicting that he was set for a 25-goal campaign.

Constant injuries though meant that he could not get a run of games in the first-team. And then an injury he suffered in January required him to get a knee surgery, putting him out of action for almost a year. But it looks like he is finally set to make his return to the pitch.

More from Celtic FC News

Over the past month or so, Johnston has been training at Lennoxtown. And Video Celts are reporting that the winger is set to make his first appearances since that horror injury against Aberdeen’s reserve side on Tuesday in the Reserve Cup Final.

Johnston’s return will be a huge boost to Neil Lennon. Following James Forrest’s ankle injury, he has had very little in the name of depth on the wings. Mohamed Elyounoussi is the only genuine winger that is fit at the moment and as a result, Ryan Christie has been forced wide on to the right although the Scot is much more effective while playing through the middle of the park.

It is going to take some time though before Johnston is fit enough to feature for the first-team again after the amount of time he has been out of the game. Until then, Lennon will have to do with fitting square pegs in round holes.
