The pundit has called for the Celtic star to be dropped from the first-team after the club’s struggles over the past few months.

It is clear that Celtic need to make some changes if they are to turn their season around. Just two wins from their last eight games in all competitions has left them chasing the Rangers in the Premiership and on the cusp of elimination from the Europa League.

Unfortunately, Neil Lennon has not made the necessary tweaks to this side yet to get them back rolling. He has decided to stick with the same players for the most part despite the string of poor results. And sooner or later, he will have to drop a few players or it might end up costing him his job.

One those players should be Jeremie Frimpong according to Frank McAvennie. As reported by Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said:

"“Frimpong is not a defender for me.“He is great going forward, he is a wing-back but he is not a defender.“He was at fault for both goals. He was standing there for the penalty and did not move and with his pace he should have been there first.“It was as if none of them had any confidence in the goalkeeper.“It is a shame. I do not know what is happening but they need to pull their finger out.”"

There have always been concerns regarding the defensive side of Frimpong’s game. Even against Hibernian, he was at fault for the first goal that the Hoops conceded. Scott Bain managed to save the penalty but the rebound fell at the feet of Jamie Murphy who made no mistake. It could have been easily prevented though if the Dutch youngster had reacted in time to get into the box but did not react at all after the save.

There is no denying that Frimpong has a lot of qualities. He is brilliant in the attacking third and might very well be the best attacking full-back in Scotland right now. But his defensive game leaves a lot to be desired.

Now, the question is what Lennon decides to do. He can keep Frimpong in the team by switching to a 3-5-2, which is a much better fit for the youngster. Or he could stick with the back-four and give a start to Hatem Abd Elhamed instead and see how he performs. He needs to do something though instead of trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
