Celtic star finally makes long-awaited return to squad

There is finally some good news for Celtic on the injury front as one of their stars has finally made his long-awaited return to the squad.

There is no denying the fact that Celtic are going through a rough patch right now. In recent, this is one of the club’s worst runs of form in recent memory. Over the last eight games in all competitions, the Hoops have managed only two wins. Safe to say the pressure is well and truly on Neil Lennon right now.

At a time when any positive news is rare, the Hoops have been handed a major boost in the form of the return of Christopher Jullien to the squad. The Frenchman has been nursing a back issue that has kept him out for over two months. But he is finally back in the squad and according to Neil Lennon, he is even in contention to start.

As reported by Herald Scotland, speaking ahead of the game against Sparta Prague in the Europa League, the Celtic boss said:

"Jullien and Elhamed are in contention to start."

Interestingly, Celtic’s bad form has coincided with Jullien’s absence from the team. And one of the weakest areas has definitely been their defence.

Shane Duffy was brought in to fix things at the back but till now has had the opposite effect. Right now, he looks like a mistake waiting to happen and has looked completely out of place in Neil Lennon’s system. As a result, he has perhaps lost his place in the first-team already.

And while Jullien has had his critics over the past year or so as well, with many pointing out his inability to deal with physical strikers, there is no denying that he has been a consistent performer for the club. In fact, you could count his bad performances on one hand.

While it might be too much to ask him to slot back straight into the team after such a long injury layoff, let’s just hope that he can quickly return to full fitness. It is clear that the team need him at the moment.
