With Neil Lennon’s place at the club looking very shaky, Celtic have been offered a major Eddie Howe boost by the pundit if his claims are indeed true.

Where there is smoke, there is fire. The saying is often true when it comes to football. And with the number of rumours that have linked Eddie Howe to Celtic in recent weeks, one has to question whether there is really any truth to them.

Now, there is no hiding from the fact that Neil Lennon is standing on shaking ground at the moment. The Hoops have just managed two wins from their last eight games and if results don’t improve quickly, one would think it will not be too long before the manager is shown the exit door.

If that happens, Howe seems to be one of the leading candidates for the Parkhead job. And if Jim White is to be believed, then Peter Lawwell has already held discussions with the former Bournemouth manager.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, the pundit said:

"“One name that keeps on getting mentioned, and I cannot confirm this, but it’s been reported to me that Eddie Howe was in Scotland recently playing golf with Peter Lawwell.“Eddie Howe is ready to take a job back in football. Would Eddie Howe be the man for Celtic?“With all due to respect to Neil who I know is still in the job and I apologise for talking like this, but we have to.“Would Howe be the man? If you’re a Celtic fan, would you want him?”"

If Celtic do decided to part ways with Lennon, then there are very few options better than Howe available at the moment. He successfully lead Bournemouth from League Two to the Premier League. An incredible achievement on its own. Then he managed to keep them there for five years.

Ultimately, they were relegated at the end of last season. As a result, the club and Howe parted ways by mutual consent, leaving the door open for the Hoops to make a move as he is a free agent at this point of time.

A stumbling block could very well be his salary though. He was believed to have been on around £4 million per year at Bournemouth. There is no way that Celtic will be paying anything around that. But the club have pulled off major surprises in the past and with 10IAR on the line, they might just pull one more rabbit out of the hat if the situation called for it. One can only hope.
