It is clear that Celtic need to makes some changes in order to bring their season back on track. Can a returning player act as the catalyst?

Celtic’s 2-2 draw against Hibernian was definitely not a good result. Ryan Christie makes some valid points when he talks of the players being shocked to go 2-0 down in the second half. Supporters likewise.  Christie wants the defence to do better. Supporters likewise again!

Changes are needed, that is for sure. A lot has been written about Neil Lennon and his managerial team. It may be true that their cards are marked and that they are on borrowed time as we speak. Maybe Peter Lawwell has been researching and exploring alternatives at the helm?

Let’s face it, he’s accused of a lot of things, and the list would include negligence if he wasn’t looking at other options, just in case. We mentioned the likelihood of him considering Gordon Strachan way back in October after the draw at Aberdeen. That’s still not ruled out and is being put forward as a theory in the media now.

But if Lennon remains in charge, as is quite possible, then he may need a bit of luck and good fortune along with hard work and planning. What if a couple of simple changes could be enough to steady the Hoops?

Simple changes may be the answer and the luck may come with the return of Christopher Jullien to the first-team after his long-running back troubles. The Frenchman coming back in at centre-half could solidify a defence that has been leaking goals at an alarming rate over the past few months or so.

Duffy was expected to deliver more and has fallen short. The majority of fans lauded his signing and sadly regret doing so now. On the other hand, Jullien’s return seems to be edging closer.

To bolster the back four (or three) Hatem Abd Elhamed needs to play and be first choice. Jeremie Frimpong has potential for sure, but in the short-term it may be as an impact sub out wide while James Forrest is out.

Edouard looked sharp for France, he needs Griffiths to be firing as well and they can get back to being a top pairing. Start them both and use the different approach of one or more of Christie, Ntcham, Rogic and Elyounoussi around them or as subs.

The debate about Scott Brown can happen separately. These changes may need to be supported by a leader on the park. Broony is a leader. For now he can take the players through some difficult weeks.

Some of that can happen sooner, without Jullien, but given he is back in training, and there are hopes that he will be available for selection soon, he really could kick start a change.
