The Celtic summer signing has made an admission about the injury he suffered earlier which appears to have derailed his season.

It is unreasonable to expect a player to come to a new club and start firing on all cylinders. Especially when it is an entirely different league as well. But that is exactly what Albian Ajeti appeared to be doing after joining Celtic in the summer for a reported transfer fee of around £5 million.

He took Scottish football by storm and at one point had been averaging a goal every 47 minutes in the Premiership. But an untimely injury put him out for a few weeks and since then he has failed to rediscover that form.

Speaking to The Celtic View and as cited by The Celtic Star, he seems to recognise that his injury came at a very bad time but is hopeful of rediscovering his form after staying back with the club during the international break:

"“There’s never a great time for an injury but my injury came at a very bad time. Celtic were winning games and I was at the stage where I felt like I could push myself for 90 minutes. It was a bit of a setback but I’m happy to be back now and trying to work on my fitness.“The training sessions during the international break have been hard sessions. We’ve been doing some long, hard runs to open up the legs and build the fitness up. There aren’t many players here but we’ve still done a lot of work with the ball.“I hope to be back to full fitness for the Hibernian game but I’ll still need to get a full 90 minutes to know. I’ve been training really well with the staff here and I’m feeling good. The fitness will come with each game.”"

As things stand, he has scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in 15 appearances in all competitions. And while those are not terrible numbers, he has looked out of form since returning from injury and needs to step up.

The problem now is that Neil Lennon is currently playing a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3, whichever way you see it. But Ajeti is a striker who seems like he works best with a partner. That happened during those early appearances when he had Edouard to pair with. The Swiss international is a fox in the box and being the sole man up top does not seem to be his strong suit.

For the time being, let’s just hope that both him and Edouard rediscover their touch and start finding the back of the net for the Hoops. If they are playing well enough, Neil Lennon will find a way to accommodate them both in the starting XI.
