UEFA have hit Celtic with another fine for “improper conduct” in their earlier Europa League game against Lille which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Celtic are no strangers to being hit with fines by the UEFA in recent years. A number of times, it has been the fans who have caused the club to be punished, a number of times for reasons they should not have been.

Some will remember last time when UEFA’s official account praise the Hoops fans for the atmosphere that they had created inside the stadium just before going on to hit the club with a fine.

This time though, it is not the fans that anyone can blame because they were not even in there! Instead, the club have been hit with a €7000 fine by the UEFA for “improper conduct of the team” for their game against Lille in the Europa League group stage which ended in 2-2 draw, as reported by the Daily Record.

On the night, five Celtic players, namely Mohamed Elyounoussi, Diego Laxalt, Olivier Ntcham, Albian Ajeti and Scott Bain were shown yellow cards by Macedonian referee Aleksandar Stavrev.

The Hoops have bigger issues to worry about in Europe now than the fine. They lost their first group stage game 3-1 against AC Milan. But then they managed a 2-2 draw away in Lille which was a good result and it looked like they could bring their campaign back on track with a couple of wins over Sparta Prague.

That is not how it panned out though. The Hoops were handed a 4-1 defeat by Sparta Prague despite not having played a league game over a month. And that leaves them in a terrible spot with just a point over their first three league games, forget qualification but looking like the favourites to end up at the bottom of their Europa League group when things are all said and done.
