Celtic have been left once again as a couple of their players are in danger of contracting the virus or quarantining in another international scare.

Another international break and once again we are left questioning the logic behind arranging these games in the middle of a global pandemic. Last time around, we saw a number of Celtic players go down after contracting the virus or coming in contact with people who had and if the early signs are anything to go by then this time won’t be any different either.

A number of players have already tested all over the globe while on international duty and now the Norwegian duo of Mohamed Elyounoussi and Kristoffer Ajer are in danger of entering quarantine after international teammate Omar Elabdellaoui ended up returning a positive test himself.

The Galatasaray man has already gone into isolation. Now it remains to be seen whether the Celtic duo are adjudged to have been in close contact with him over the last few days.

If that ends up being the case then the duo might be forced into quarantine even if they don’t test positive themselves. A similar case happened with Ryan Christie about a month ago when he was put into a 14-day isolation after coming in contact with Stuart Armstrong. One can only hope that that does not end up happening with these two.

Elyounoussi has easily been Celtic’s best player over the past few weeks and has almost carried the team at times. Him being out is not something that Neil Lennon would be looking forward to. On the other hand, Ajer has also emerged as the club’s most solid defender and with how shaky things look at the back, he would be a huge loss as well.

Now the Hoops face an agonising wait to learn the fate of the two. And again, we have to question the idea behind organising international games right now. But that is like beating a drum to deaf people at this point.
