Andy Halliday could not resist taking a dig at the Celtic star, claiming that he is not as good a player as he thinks he is.
Andy Halliday will always be remembered for being cheered off the Hampden pitch when substituted in a Scottish Cup semi final. Although it was after only 40 mins, his side were losing 2-0 and it was the Celtic fans singing his name. Halliday did throw a tantrum as he returned to the Rangers bench. Memories indeed!
Events like that mean that Hoops fans at least won’t be too worried about Halliday’s comments about someone as good as Odsonne Edouard. The former Rangers man was talking with Open Goal and his comments were reported by Total Boot Room.
Halliday talks of Edouard maybe being unhappy at Celtic. Although he also admits he doesn’t know if that’s true. The report says that he has sympathies with Neil Lennon over his position with the French striker.
That view won’t endear him to the Rangers fans at all. Talking about Edouard and Lennon he had plenty to say and a point to make:
"“He has been Celtic’s key man for the last couple of years. But there comes a point where you need to say, you can’t keep playing unless you improve. Top players never miss an opportunity to show they’re top players.“I don’t know if Edouard is unhappy, but he seems unhappy. But if you get picked, it is an opportunity to show you’re a top player. If I’m watching him, I’m thinking ‘he’s not as good as he thinks he is’. He’s Celtic’s best player.“I feel for Neil Lennon because he will do everything to get Edouard back to top form.”"

No doubt that all made sense to Halliday at the time he spoke, that disappears though when it’s put into writing and whatever point he is trying to make seems very unclear or even lost.
There is some truth that Edouard needs a bit more time to hit top form again after injury, his positive test and subsequent isolation. He’s still needing a mix of time to recover and rest mixed with a need to play more and get match sharpness in place. He was rested on Sunday against Motherwell, coming on near the end of the game and making a positive impression in that short time.
Edouard will no doubt spark back into form again soon. Support from the team and coaches will help. A few strange comments from Halliday won’t make much of an impact on him.
