Another signing from the Brendan Rodgers era is set to leave Celtic on loan after never having made an appearance for them although he has been unlucky in that respect.

Brendan Rodgers’ time at Celtic was a trophy laden one and he was the man responsible for turning this side into a Treble winning machine. The manner in which he left the club though in the middle of the season has turned him into a controversial figure among the supporters despite all his success.

And one stick that he has been constantly beaten with is the fact that a number of his signings turned out to be major flops. One them who was extremely unlucky in that regard was Andrew Gutman.

The American was signed in January of 2019. And despite impressing during a pre-season in Austria, he has never made an appearance for the Hoops because of visa issues as he has not made his international debut yet.

That has not stopped him from making a mark in the MLS while on loan with FC Cincinnati, making 21 appearances for them. And it looks like the club are interested in bringing him back for another season. And as it does not look like he will be playing for Celtic anytime soon, that might be the best move for all parties involved.

Gutman’s contact with the Hoops expires at the end of June in 2022 and the club will be hoping that they can sort out his issues till then. The same has been the case with Manny Perez, who was signed during the same time and has faced the same problems.

That has not stopped the club from targeting players in the MLS though with Philadelphia Union’s Mark McKenzie being the latest of them. Although things are expected to be much easier in case of the defender as he has already represented the United States on the international stage.
