The forgotten Celtic man was spotted training and could be back in the first-team picture soon after not having played a game for a long time.

Celtic have a busier schedule than most teams anyway. And this season it is even more busier considering the effects of the global pandemic on the footballing season and the fact that games from last season are still being completed.

As a result, the Hoops will need as big of a squad as possible in order to compete on all fronts, which is always expected from the team. But constant injuries as well as players being ruled out due to contracting the virus or being in contact with those who had has been not helped matters.

Thus, the return of Mikey Johnston to training will be a huge boost for the club as they are short on the wings right now, having lost James Forrest for the foreseeable future due to a fractured ankle.

Johnston was seen training with the first-team at Lennoxtown heading into their Europa League match with Sparta Prague.

Not too long ago, Johnston was considered as a can’t miss talent at the club. There were even calls that he could be set to score 25 goals at the start of last season. But those hopes evaporated after he struggled with injuries throughout the course of 2019/20 and has been out of action since January.

Still just 21 years of age, you would hope that he can put these issues behind and play some continuous football in the near future. The talent has never been a question with the winger. But even the most talented players can end up having disappointing careers if they struggle to cope with their fitness issues.

Hopefully that will not be the case with Johnston and he is back playing in the Hoops as soon as possible.
