Neil Lennon appears to have dropped a hint about Diego Laxalt’s future at Celtic after his impressive performances since joining on loan from AC Milan.

Diego Laxalt has been absolutely brilliant since moving to Celtic on a season-long loan from AC Milan. While his arrival has coincided with one of the club’s worst runs in recent times, winning just one of their five games. But the Uruguayan does not deserve any of the blame for those results.

It is safe to say that most fans would be delighted if the club did manage to sign him on a permanent basis although there are fears that the club could be priced out of any potential deal.

Neil Lennon seems open to the idea of extending Laxalt’s stay at Parkhead. In fact, the manager seems very impressed with his new recruit and had a lot of good things to say about him.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Lennon said:

"“It’s obvioulsy very early days, but when you’ve got a player like Laxalt, again it will probably come down to having discussions with him. He’s a player I’ve admired for a long time, and he’s proven everything I thought about him to be true.“He’s a great defender. I’ve seen him a lot of times and I’ve always liked his style.“Going forward he gives us good pace and thrust on the left-hand side, but he likes to defend.“His positioning, reading of the game and football intelligence is very high.“I think we’ll see more and more of him as he gets accustomed to the culture and the language, but I think he’s adapted brilliantly already.“He’s been outstanding from the moment he came in.“Diego doesn’t speak much English, but you don’t have to tell him too much or give him too many instructions.“He knows the game, he understands his position, and I felt that when I watched him over the piece he would add a lot of quality to our play.“Laxalt has been an excellent addition, a superb asset to the squad.“He’s very fit, and looks after himself well. He’s a great defender, and he gives us good balance on that left-hand side.“Diego is aggressive in his play and aggressive in his passing. I’ve been delighted with him so far.“He hasn’t been on a winning team yet, so he’s getting a bit of stick about that from the boys, but his performances. . .“I think he’ll get better and better, he’s really enjoying it, and we’re enjoying having him.“He was absolutely superb on Thursday night in Lille up against quality opposition.”"

While it is still early days, Laxalt has already shown that he could make the left-back or left wingback spot his own for the rest of the season and it does not look like Greg Taylor can do much about that at this point of time.

The Uruguayan brings incredible pedigree to the plate. Although he never quite managed to establish himself in the AC Milan, it does take a lot of quality to even make it to that level in the first place. And he has also made it to the quarter-finals of the World Cup while representing his national side at Russia 2018.

Let’s just hope that the club can keep hold of him for the long term. He has already been very impressive and is only expected to get better as he finds his feet in Scottish football and gels with his new teammates further. News also broke out earlier today that he might be available for a much lower transfer fee than originally thought as his contract with AC Milan continues to run down.
