Kris Boyd criticises Celtic star for laughable reason

Yes, Kris Boyd criticising Celtic players for not working hard enough. That’s the same Kris Boyd who Walter Smith used to drop because of insufficient contribution on the pitch.

It’s very much a case of the kettle calling the pot black as the ex-Rangers striker hits out. Boyd was a very good goal scorer at some, though by no means all, of his clubs. Although like another Rangers forward, Alfredo Morelos, he has not got a great goal scoring record against Celtic.

In fact Boyd has scored more goals against the Rangers (6) where he had two spells as a player, than he has scored against Celtic (1). But good goal scorer or not, he was never known for his hard work off the ball.

As part of Sky Sports pundit team Boyd gets the chance to talk out as part of their football coverage and he was there at Pittodrie on Sunday to add his glee at another poor Celtic performance. He was critical of Tom Rogic in particular and criticised his lack of application and hard work:

"“Hard work. There’s no getting away from it. Whatever way you look at it, the only way you can turn around results is by working hard on your opponents, and things will happen.”"

It’s hard to be sure what Kris Boyd knows about hard work. As Peoplepill summarises about him as a player:

"“Boyd is typically defined as a goal poacher, whose key attribute is his strike rate.“He prefers to play in the penalty box, where he can play-off the shoulder of defenders who are close to their goals.“When he fails to score, however, his overall contribution to the team is sometimes questioned. Manager Walter Smith occasionally chose not to play him owing to his lack of contribution to the overall team performance.”"

In contrast to Boyd’s criticism, Rogic has had some good comments generally about his performance against Aberdeen at the weekend.

In particular for his swift feet and quality passing leading up to Callum McGregor’s goal and related with a great ball to Leigh Griffiths for another goal.

Rogic has only recently been back on the pitch in the Hoops after a long gap, so finding his full fitness will take time. Even then the Aussie has been well known for either coming on or being subbed late in games. But even knowing that Celtic fans were able to praise Rogic after the match.

If Rogic can assist a couple of goals in a game then he’s doing a great job from the Celtic perspective and if anything should be featuring more often for his contribution rather than less. If we ever need a critic to speak about work rate then I doubt we’ll be rushing to the former Rangers man for his views.
