Following their 3-1 defeat at the hands of AC Milan, Chris Sutton has blasted the Celtic duo who have struggled with their fitness this season.

It is no secret that Celtic have their problems at the moment. Back-to-back defeats mean that Neil Lennon is already walking the managerial tightrope even this early in the season. But after having backed him in the transfer window and with 10IAR on the line, he will be constantly under the microscope. A couple of more poor results over the next few weeks and the axe could fall.

Of course, the manager has not been helped by all the issues that they have had through the course of the season. A number of stars were already struggling with their injury issues and then came the international break, where four more were ruled out due to either returning positive tests or being in contact with those who did.

At this point, those available would be expected to step up and produce results. Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths are two such names but they have not set the world on fire over the last two games. A lot of that can be put down to their continuous fitness issues though. So much so that even Chris Sutton could not resist taking a dig.

While speaking on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra and as transcribed by 67 Hail Hail, he said:

"“I thought it was a bold move to go with Griffiths and Ajeti up top. Two players who were still trying to find their fitness levels.“If you put those two together, Ryan Christie is fitter than the pair of them.”"

Whether it was just a joke or something that he said out of frustration at the duo’s struggles to remain fit for any considerable length of time, hopefully the two will use this as fuel to move forward and prove the critics wrong.

We all know how quickly things can change in football. This we are talking about how bad Celtic have been this season, a month later we could be talking about how they are looking unstoppable on their quest for 10IAR. It is just about stringing together a few good results and the picture will change completely.

This is way too early to count this team out. The talent is certainly there. It is just about finding the right combinations and executing the plans on the pitch. Keep the faith.
