Charlie Nicholas accuses coach of being Celtic mole

Charlie Nicholas has blamed a former Celtic coach of being a mole after this week’s leaked line up created a stir in the Scottish media.

Celtic’s performance against the Rangers was disheartening to see and while the 2-0 scoreline might not be catastrophic, the performance from the Hoops could not have been worse. And perhaps it was because of the display that a lot of shine has been taken from how the line up was leaked on the eve of the game.

We already know that even the Rangers players were aware of the Celtic team from Connor Goldson’s admission. Considering the performance the Bhoys put in though, it would not have made much of a difference.

But that does not change the fact that there is a mole in the dressing room right now who is leaking confidential stuff and while it might not have had much of an impact on Saturday, who is to say it will not in the future.

Never one to stay away from the spotlight, Charlie Nicholas appears to have picked out the right moment to bring out one of the stories from his own.

A mole in the dressing room is not anything new to Scottish football. In fact, there were rumours that there was one at the club during Billy McNeill’s second stint as manager. Nicholas was also in his second stint as a player at Parkhead during that point.

Writing in his column in the Express and as transcribed by The Daily Record, Nicholas said:

Lennon also can’t blame the 2-0 defeat on the mole who leaked his line-up on the eve of the clash. When I was at Celtic the second time around, we had a mole.

The manager, Billy McNeill, would ask guys like me, Paul McStay and Andy Walker who we had been talking to and how this information was getting out.

I didn’t find out who the mole was until after I left Celtic. I won’t name him, but it was one of Billy’s coaches.

Nicholas has done the smart thing by not naming the coach.

His timing of bringing up this story is certainly interesting though as The Hoops are going through the same trouble once again after it was leaked in the media that Klimala and Welsh were set to start.
