Judging by their recent performances, Celtic must already be regretting their decision which is starting to look like a mistake.
Saturday’s performance against the Rangers was very disheartening for Celtic fans. The club showed no fight or desire to win the game and at no point did they even look like they were close to scoring. To be brutally honest, the 2-0 scoreline is much closer than the actual game was and it is clear the changes need to be made.
For a change this time, the board cannot be handed the lion’s share of the blame. They backed Neil Lennon in the summer transfer window and have brought in a number of players. Nobody can call Vasilis Barkas, David Turnbull, Albian Ajeti, Shane Duffy or Diego Laxalt as ‘cheap’ options. Now it is the job of the manager to get the best out of them.
One decision that they appear to have got wrong though is letting Jonny Hayes walk out for free in the summer. Since then, the left flank has appeared as one of the weakest positions in the team. And although Laxalt has been brought in to fill in there, you have a filling that the Irishman would have gotten some good minutes there as well.

Even last season, he was a regular feature in Neil Lennon’s side and scored away at Ibrox. Back then, he was playing mostly as a left-back but you have to feel that the left wingback role would have suited him even better.
What is done is done though. Celtic are now preparing to face Hayes, who is at Aberdeen right now. And if he ends up putting in a good display against the Hoops, it will hurt a little more than most times.
Hopefully, Laxalt can quickly settle into Scottish football and make that left wingback position his own. And its just not about the Uruguayan. The entire team looks like they have not gelled together well and need to get their chemistry together as soon as they possibly can. Its a huge season and we have already made our first big mistake by losing to the Rangers. We cannot afford many more.
