Frank McAvennie believes that Celtic are on the verge of offering a contract extension to the long-time star.

If Frank McAvennie is to be believed then Celtic are preparing a contract extension. Speaking with Football Insider, the football pundit claimed that Hoops captain Scott Brown is due for a contract extension this season. After hitting on his recent claims, fans could do well to trust his judgment here.

With his current contract set to expire at the end of the season, McAvennie seems to be of the mind that Brown will receive another contract extension before his current one runs out, having shown no signs of slowing down quite yet.

While speaking with Football Insider, he said:

"“I think the club will put an offer on the table for him. I know Scott and I would think that he would be around Celtic for a long time. Scott loves the game and he will know when he is ready to finish. The youngsters start running past you. Nobody will need to tell him. He will make his own decisions but I suspect he has a couple of years left.”"

Having been with Celtic since 2007, Brown has been an integral part of the Bhoys’ success for years. Serving as the club’s captain for the past decade as well, Broony has proven his mettle as a leader for the club and remains a first-team star to this day, although he is quite certainly in the twilight of his career.

If he can continue to produce for the club, it would make perfect sense for him to extend his stay at a club he has been such a massive part of for years and has become quite the favourite among fans, especially with his passion for the club and the game.

Hoops fans would likely take an extension for Broony as welcome news, keeping their club captain happy and around for some time. It is undeniable though that the club need to prepare for life after him as well as it is evident that he is no longer the player he used to be.
