The Celtic loanee has been forced to return to Parkhead in order to rehabilitate after picking up an injury while away on loan.
Celtic have had their injury owes already this season. James Forrest fractured his ankle while playing against Riga and will be out at least until November. Albian Ajeti is also trying to get fit in time to face the Rangers this Saturday.
His strike partner, Leigh Griffiths, has been out injured for almost the entirety of the season, making only one substitute appearance till now. Christopher Jullien has been out for over a month himself but could be forced to start on Saturday due to the lack of options in defence right now.
Odsonne Edouard’s injury earlier in the season probably cost Celtic the game against Ferencvaros in the Champions League qualifiers. Of course there are more but we can’t count them all, or we’d be here all day.
Now, it looks like though that it is not only Celtic first-team players picking up injuries but those away on loan as well. That was the case with goalkeeper Ryan Mullen, who signed a contract extension in the summer before heading to Cove Rangers for the season. There he was expected to serve as the understudy to Stuart McKenzie. That has been cut short though as he has been sent back to Parkhead after picking up an injury.
The news was confirmed by the club on their Twitter:

With the likes of Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard at the club right now, opportunities for someone like Mullen are going to be extremely limited if any. So at this point he would be hoping that he can recover in time to be sent back out on loan to somewhere where he can get some minutes.
At just 19 years of age, Mullen has a bright future ahead of him. Right now though, he won’t get any minutes in a Celtic side where competition for places is extremely strong. And it is sad that he has picked up an injury that was serious enough for him to be sent back at this early stage of his career. Let’s just hope that it is not serious enough though to keep him out for an extended period of time and he is back on the pitch as soon as possible.
We would like to send him our best wishes and wish him a quick recovery.
