So far the international matches haven’t been a lot of fun for Celtic fans. Scotland’s win was a bright spot, but so was Norway’s 4-0 win over Romania.

It’s easy to forget or overlook the range of countries where Celtic players are featuring. Norway’s match against Romania in Oslo at the weekend had a mini Glasgow Derby within the sub play. Celtic duo Mohammed Elyounoussi and Kris Ajer were playing for Norway and the Rangers were represented by Ianis Hagi.

The Scotsman carries the story of the match, and yes, it was as comprehensive a result as the score suggests. The Romanians were well beaten by Norway and we can all hope that Ajer and Elyounoussi have helped make the point to Hagi that they are ready and prepared to repeat the win at the weekend in Glasgow too.

Hagi wouldn’t have taken too kindly to anything along those lines, he was already pretty upset by the way Romania played and like many ‘wonderkids’ he hit out at others for the poor result:

"“It is a result we did not expect, it is a big disappointment, but this is not the face of the national team.“If we complain after every match, even after painful results, it’s not good. We just have to look to the national team’s next match.“You should ask the manager about why we didn’t have chances.“We are at the beginning of the road with the new coach and we could not apply on the field what is transmitted to us from the sidelines.“I’m very upset so I don’t want to say anything stupid.”"

Oops, maybe too late. Hagi was whipped off the pitch after 64 mins when they went 4-0 down,  so the manager does seem to know something!

Ajer by all accounts had a quiet but solid match but then it’s not easy to stand out as a centre back when your team are dominating the game and the opposition aren’t creating chances.

Elyounoussi made a great impression further up the pitch during the win. He played more centrally behind hat trick hero Erling Haaland rather than his usual position on the wing and showed great flexibility in his positioning. No wonder Southampton are already regretting his loan to Celtic.

Winning games wherever you are playing brings confidence, while getting thrashed and subbed off doesn’t do much for a young, less-experienced player. Well done to the Celtic pair!
