Celtic had been handed a major Shane Duffy scare earlier as an unnamed Republic of Ireland international was confirmed to have tested positive.

This international break has turned out to be an absolute nightmare for Celtic. And it looks like it is only getting worse by the minute.

Odsonne Edouard and Nir Bitton have both tested positive while away with their respective national sides. On the other hand, Ryan Christie has been order to spend 14 days in isolation after it was adjudged that he was in close contact with Stuart Armstrong, who returned a positive test while with the Scotland national team.

And now there was a major worry regarding Shane Duffy as well as an unnamed Republic of Ireland international has been confirmed by FA Ireland to be positive ahead of their game against Wales. Four other players have been identified as close contacts as well and will be in self-isolation.

Thankfully for Celtic though, the Irish captain is not part of that party as he has been named in the Starting XI that will take on Wales which will have come as a massive relief to the fans as FA Ireland had refused to name the five players in their statement.

This comes on the back of two Irish backroom staff testing positive leading up to their Euro qualifier against Slovakia, where they crashed out on penalties. And while Duffy might not have tested positive, or been a close contact, it does not mean that he is completely out of danger.

To be brutally honest, teams just should not be playing international football right now as it has become abundantly clear that it increases the risk of players being exposed to the virus exponentially. And clubs like Celtic have to suffer the consequences for the decision to arrange these games in the middle of a pandemic.
