Ryan Christie has dropped a fresh hint regarding his Celtic future as his current contract has less than a couple years left and is set to expire in 2022.
It is easy to forget how far Ryan Christie has come in a short amount of time. In fact, in his first three seasons at Celtic, he had failed to break into the first-team. And if not for the impressive loan spells at Aberdeeen, he might have ended up being moved on without being given his chance. Right now though, he is one of the most important parts of this Hoops team.
As a result, the club will be desperate to tie him down to a new contract. His current deal has less than a couple of years left on it and runs out in 2022. And judging by his performances over the past few seasons, he has outgrown that contract anyway.
It does not look like Christie is thinking about a new contract right now though. The midfielder seems relaxed about the situation.
As reported by The Daily Record, he said:
"“With everything going on, I didn’t think it was the right time to go into it over the summer.“It’s a bit different now but I’ve still got plenty of time on my contract.“Before this one I was down to five months to go before we actually signed a new deal, so there’s plenty of time for that to resolve itself.“It’s not occupying my thoughts, I enjoy football too much to let it affect me.“It’s crazy these days when people go into the last two years of their contract and there’s a big freak out about when they’re going to sign the next one.“It’s changed days. My dad always reminds me of when he’d go down to the last week of his contract and still hadn’t heard anything!“It’s strange but I’m just enjoying playing football every week again.“I take it as a compliment the club wants to offer me a new deal. I’ve said that to the gaffer.”"

It is hard to judge Christie’s comments. He might be suggesting that a new Celtic deal is a matter of time and he will sign it when the time arrives. Or he might be keeping his options open, as there appear to be chances of him getting a Premier League or Ligue 1 move in the future. Whatever may be the case, the Hoops must try to get him to sign on the dotted line as soon as possible.
At times, it feels like Christie does not get the credit he deserves. Last season, his stats were staggering, scoring 19 goals and providing 16 assists in 43 appearances. And this season he has featured in all of Celtic’s games till now, scoring 3 goals and providing 7 assists in the process of doing so. As things stand though, he looks set to miss the upcoming Glasgow Derby which is surely going to be a huge blow for the Hoops.
