As the situation continues to get worse, angry Celtic fans have demanded immediate action before things go completely out of hand.

Some things in life just don’t make any sense. For example, playing international matches in the middle of a global pandemic. It is already pretty clear that this increases the risk of infection for the players with a number of them testing positive over the past week or so. Unfortunately, Celtic are one of the clubs who have been hardest as a result.

Heading into one of the most important games of the season, the club have been hit with one blow after another. First, Edouard tested positive after reporting to French under-21 duty at Clarefontaine.

Then, Ryan Christie was ordered to spend 14 days in self-isolation after Stuart Armstrong tested positive while with the Scotland national team and the Celtic midfielder was adjudged to have been in close contact with him. And if all this was not enough, Nir Bitton has now returned a positive test as well while with the Israel national team.

All of this has brought a lot of attention to the thought process behind organising an international break at this point of time. Players travelling from all over the world to join up with their national teams has only increased the risk of them being exposed to the virus.

Some of Angry Celtic fans even took to Twitter after the Nir Bitton news was announced by the club:

Things have gotten so bad that even some Rangers fans agree:

More from Celtic FC News

On top of all this, James Forrest has already been confirmed out for the next month or so after fracturing his ankle against Riga. Albian Ajeti on the other hand is in a race against time to regain fit in time after injuring himself in the process of scoring against Hibernian.

This means that Celtic could be without as many as five important players when they welcome the Rangers at Parkhead on October 17th. That is considering that we have seen the end of these positive cases. For all we know, there might be more over the course of the next few days.

This is not just a problem for Celtic though but for all clubs around the world. And if this international break has shown us anything, it is that there should not be one for the foreseeable future. The Nations League should have just been scrapped off and EURO qualifiers scheduled for some time next year.

What’s done is done though and at this point of time, we can only hope that there are no more injuries or positive tests heading into the Glasgow Derby. We just cannot afford any more.
