Celtic FC can sign £3 million-rated Brazilian for free
By Kade Kistner
While Celtic has been linked with multiple strikers and midfielders, defenders have not got much attention. Could one be on the way to Parkhead?
Celtic have been linked to Fabricio Bruno, a defender who specializes in the centre-back position. The Brazilian defender has be valued at £3 million, and could be seen as a player that would provide competition to somebody such as Kristoffer Ajer.
His former club, Serie-A side Cruzeiro, turned down an offer from the Hoops according to Globo Esporte. However, tensions between Fabricio Bruno and Cruzeiro over wages and payments has led Cruzeiro to terminate the centre-back’s contract. This has led to a high-profile legal dispute between the two parties.
Now all that remains is to see which club Fabricio Bruno ends up playing for. He can be signed to a new club without a transfer fee hanging over the process. This would allow the Hoops to essentially sign the defender for free aside from weekly wages.
What has to be taken into consideration is whether or not the Hoops want to sign a player with the legal and drama issues that surround someone like Fabricio Bruno, as HITC has pointed out. However, it could be worth taking the gamble on a player like Fabricio Bruno, especially with injuries to the back line, and Kristoffer Ajer’s decline near the end of the first half of the season.
The Hoops have already made an initial splash with the signing of Polish striker Patryk Klimala, and more signings could be on the horizon. Bringing in a defender, a position that has not been emphasized this January, would go a long way in helping round out the squad.
