It’s been a while since a reliable transfer rumor has come up. This new set of talks for Celtic looks pretty accurate, but rumors look to be in the early stages.
Glasgow Evening Times comfortably reported that the Hoops have been given permission to go after Red Star Belgrade defender, Vujadin Savic.
The publication goes on to say that the 27-year-old defender could be bought at a price of around £1.5 million. The rumored price matches perfectly with Savic’s market value of 1.35 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Savic has been with a plethora of teams over the course of his career. The Serbian’s most notable stints came with French side Bordeaux and Premier League side Watford. Savic never managed a start with the the Hornets.
Savic is a pretty decent defender for the competition he competes in. Whoscored has updated stats for center-back through seven games. In those fixtures, Savic averaged 7.1 interceptions, 1.1 tackles and 2.3 interceptions.
However, we have to remember the level of competition that Red Star plays in. At the same time, they have been Europa League regulars and played Arsenal in this campaign.

The Glasgow Evening Times notes that there’s a couple of other clubs interested in the central defender.
"But the Hoops are facing competition from Lyon in France and Serie A strugglers Sassuolo, who also want to sign Savic, who is halfway through a two-year deal with his home town club."
Opinion
The Celts still seem to be low-balling it in terms of price. 1.5 million is very cheap for a defender, and the price suggests that we could be in for another low-price window.
However, an extra defender couldn’t be the worst thing for the Bhoys. We’ve seen the trouble with a lack of defenders with Marvin Compper and Mikael Lustig both out at the same time. Jack Hendry simply doesn’t have enough experience to fill in regularly.
Savic comes at the perfect age. 27 is not too old or young. Another potential addition to the back-line rotation that could serve Celtic well if they competed in multiple competitions next season.
Savic apparently isn’t that popular of a player. The only clip on YouTube that I could find under his name was the UEL match against Arsenal. Sorry for the inconvenience.
