Celtic reported to have interest in Trevor Carson
By Nick McAdam
Celtic may have made their last signing of the window in Charly Musonda. However, a Craig Gordon injury might have to change the scenario at Paradise.
At the moment, Brendan Rodgers is electing to go with Dorus de Vries in net. The Dutchman was electrifying in the remaining portion against Hibernian, but let in 1 goal on 3 shots against Hearts recently.
Fans are at the edge of their seat right now. The Hoops have taken care of business recently though, but a need for a starting keeper is in the cards. Plus, a clash with Zenit very soon will test the abilities of de Vries likely to the max.
Nothing crazy from the media seemed to come out as to who could replace Gordon in between the sticks. Yet, it looked as if Celtic were heavily linked to Trevor Carson, but the Bhoys’ bid was rejected.
The bid of 200,000 pounds wasn’t enough for Motherwell, but oddly enough, Carson is valued around 225,000 pounds in the market. Regardless, the Steelmen noted that their on the right track in terms of scouting as one of the biggest clubs in the world is after their players.
Here’s what Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson said, as Herald Scotland noted.

"“What it does is prove our scouting network is working and we are bringing the right players in.“Brendan had the courtesy to ring me and told me he was interested in Trevor. The two money men Alan Burrows and Peter Lawwell got together but their valuation and ours are a long way apart.“Trevor has two-and-a-half years on his contract and the only way I will sell him is if his valuation is met.“Players are human and they see a huge club like Celtic, money that could transform their lives, but that’s football."
Nobody can really figure as to what Motherwell’s reasoning is for this. Carson is 29-years-old, and his primed years have surely gone by him. Carson has been on a host of loans over the years, and has made 28 appearances with 32 goals conceded and 10 shutouts.
At the same time, why would Celtic really be in on Carson? Does he have the skill to compete in the Premiership and the Europa League?
Now would be the best time to think about quality rather than quantity. Budget matters for Celtic right now, when the worry should be finding quality at the keeper position.
However, Motherwell did reject and it’s time for the Bhoys to move on. There’s roughly 24 hours to strike something up, but thankfully it wasn’t Carson.

Glad to see that the Hoops likely won’t hold the services of Carson? Any other keepers that you have in mind? Will the Bhoys sign a goalie in the next few hours? Let us know in the comments section below.
