Are Celtic going to break their record transfer fee?
By Nick McAdam
Celtic have continued to be linked to a variety of transfer targets in this window. All of the respective players come with a hefty price tag as well.
The Celts have already laid out the pounds for Marvin Compper and Lewis Morgan thus far. However, both players came at a relatively decent price tag.
New names still have been poured onto Brendan Rodgers‘ desk. Charly Musonda, Lewis Baker and Jack Hendry are just a few. All of the youngsters rise over a price tag of 6 million pounds if Celtic were to land a permanent purchase.
What’s so special about that 6 million pound fee? Well, the Hoops have never spent over that amount in their entire transfer history. Chris Sutton and John Hartson combined for seven digits back in the early 2000’s.
Nowadays, clubs spending over 200 million on a prime player isn’t a shock. As the years go on, it wouldn’t be shocking for those world-record fees to rise even more.
To compete in any European competition, clubs need to spend the money to progress. It’s a simple yet sad fact about the current state of football.
The Hoops are one of the few clubs in Europe to have not spent a ridiculous amount of money and still manage to sneak into the Champions and Europa League. The counterclaim is that the Bhoys obviously haven’t done much in these competitions as a result.
Will Celtic spend more than their club-record transfer fee soon? History suggests that the answer is no, but the flow of the modern game means it will have to be done sooner rather than later.
So soon, in fact, that it could happen on the combined signings of the players mentioned above. There seems to be a lot of stipulations involved before Celtic even consider breaking the monetary record, as Chris Davies points out to Football Insider.

"“I think the club will support if it is the right player,” he said, as quoted by the Evening Times.“Brendan works closely with Peter [Lawwell] and Dermot [Desmond].“If it is the right player that we all feel is worth that money, and can really take us forward, then I’m sure Brendan would be supported in that.”"
The assistant manager kept the statements safe and simple by basically saying that it depends on the player.
Rodgers has noted that he will sign one more player before the window closes. Creativity specifically in the midfield is a plus, and the Celts will have to spend big for that creativity.
There must be a reason the Bhoys sign players above the age of 30. They’re cheap, and the young players for the future are prime real-estate.
The Celts might not break the record in this frame because so many of the rumored players are loan considerations. But, keep an eye out for the summer as permanent moves are bound to happen with a big fee attached.
