Immediately after Marvin Compper received a blow to his calf, Celtic went ahead and tool the initiative to place a bid on another defender with similar capabilities to Compper.

An array of outlets a few days ago broke the news that the Celts put in a bid of around 2.5 to 3 million pounds on Dusko Tosic. Celtic seem to be leading the race for the Serbian’s signature, but West Ham United have also reportedly tossed their name in the hat too.

At the age of 32, Tosic has played for nearly 10 clubs throughout the duration of his career including Real Betis and Queens Park Rangers.

Tosic still manages to put up some very impressive stats with Turkey side Besiktas, as they continue their quest through the Champions League. The center-back notches 2 tackles and interceptions per game across all competitions.

Tosic’s market value is 1.8 million pounds, but the Celts had to at least double the offer to get Besiktas interested in a deal. But that might not be enough for the club, as Goal notes in their recent article.

More from The Celtic Bhoys

"According to the report, the Scottish champions have made an offer for the 32-year-old centre-back, but Besiktas are holding out for €4m.Tosic, who is a Serbia international, counts Werder Bremen among his former clubs and played in England for Queens Park Rangers in 2010.Celtic are said to be on the look-out for defensive reinforcements this January and are already short in the department, having let Erik Sviatchenko join Midtjylland on loan."

There’s no doubt that Tosic would be used as a temporary replacement for Compper in the heart of defense. However, once the German comes back, who will Brendan Rodgers decide to start?

It will only increase the competition at the back for regular minutes, which could never be a bad thing. However, Celtic still need to spend their valuable money towards a defender that can help them right now and in the future.

As for Tosic, it’s a good signing to help fill the hole at the back-line. Maybe he can make a huge impression on Rodgers and earn regular minutes at Paradise for the rest of the campaign.
