Celtic: Liam Henderson very close to Italy move
By Nick McAdam
Celtic’s Liam Henderson seems ready for a move away from the Glasgow side. Failure to do much of anything in this campaign may mean that time is ticking for Henderson with the Bhoys.
The Livingston native has made only one real appearance for Celtic this season, and that usually can do the trick for not being able to produce any stats. The midfield is boasting some pretty tough competition at the moment especially with Lewis Morgan‘s arrival.
Add in the fact that the 21-year-old can’t really compete with the competitiveness that the middle of the park has to offer, and it’s very hard for Henderson not to be sucked right into the rumor mill.
After working his way through the Celtic Academy, the Scot completed a series of different loan spells to clubs such as Norwegian side Rosenberg BK and the Scottish Premiership’s own Hibernian. Another loan for Henderson isn’t completely out of the question, but recent reports suggest he might be packing his bags for good this time.
Turns out that Serie B side Bari were very impressed with Henderson’s recent trial with the club. A game with the reserve team was just enough for the midfielder to get manager Fabio Grosso on board.

The Italian side could always use more firepower towards their promotion campaign. Bari sit just five points off of league leaders Palermo, while also sitting in fourth place on the table.
Henderson’s status with playing at a relatively big club such as Celtic would likely guarantee him regular minutes with Bari in the future. It’d be the best move for his playing career, and it would be good for the Hoops to clear up some space in the middle of the park.
HITC suggests that a move for Henderson to the Italian outfit would be really good for him, but goes on to say that other Scottish players didn’t do that great within the country.
"It seems bizarre that current Hibs boss Neil Lennon, who knows Henderson well from his time managing Celtic, hasn’t made more of an effort to land the youngster – who clearly isn’t in Brendan Rodgers’ plans."
The publication goes on to say:
"A move to Italy could work out extremely well for the Scotland U21 international, however, he will surely be wary of other young Scots who have recently gone abroad and struggled – like Oliver Burke or Ryan Gauld.Burke, who made the trip back the UK to join West Brom last summer, struggled for minutes on the pitch with RB Leipzig in Germany, whilst Ryan Gauld who joined Sporting Lisbon a few years ago has been loaned out twice by them, unable to make any real impact on the Sporting senior team."
There’s not much of a use to have Henderson sit on the bench for the second half of the campaign. The midfielder is only worth around 400,000 pounds, but it would be better for him to fulfill his dreams while Celtic can continue to grow the middle of the park for the years ahead.
