Celtic could always use another central defender to lineup alongside Kieran Tierney and Marvin Compper. The Bhoys have been linked to several defenders in this window, but only one deal has gotten done in the process.

That deal, of course, was 32-year-old Compper who completed his first training session under Brendan Rodgers in Dubai the other day. The former Leipzig man seemed pretty happy with the Hoops so far.

Fans know by now that Celtic cannot be done focusing on what is needed for the back-line. It won’t be the easiest of roads in the Scottish Premiership after the break, and the Bhoys will also have Zenit in the Europa League very soon.

Add to the fact that the likes of Jozo Simunovic, Mikael Lustig and Erik Sviatchenko could all be out in this window contributes to the fact that the Celts’ need for defenders is justified.

As mentioned before, the Bhoys have been linked to a plethora of defenders already, but this recent rumor of interest seemingly comes like no other.

Alfie Mawson is becoming one of the most targeted defenders in the English Premier League at the moment. With Swansea City staring relegation right in the face, talent such as Mawson cannot be wasted in the second tier.

At the moment, West Ham United have reportedly put in a bid of around 25 million pounds for the center back. However, it’s led to believe that the Swans will be asking for almost double that amount in order to sell their most prized defender.

Because of the price tag, HITC had shared what they thought on what seems like a very unrealistic move at the moment.

"It almost goes without saying, then, that Celtic can pretty much bid farewell to any hopes of luring the former Barnsley youngster to Parkhead any time soon. Although, in reality, a deal always looked fanciful due to the financial discrepancy between English and Scottish football.According to Wales Online, Celtic have previously shown interest in signing the highly-rated 23-year-old from Swansea along with Tottenham Hotspur."

Mawson has made 23 appearances for the struggling EPL side, averaging 1 tackle and interception per game while amassing exactly 6.3 clearances per contest.

There’s no doubt that Mawson could help the central defense of Celtic bot right now and into the future. However, the publication’s opinion seems to be right as the price tag is just too far out of reach.

Relegation looks very likely for Swansea City right now. Maybe Mawson’s value can dip just a bit before the summer for Rodgers and Co. to swoop in for his signature.
