Chris Sutton’s analysis on Leigh Griffiths is a bit confusing
By Nick McAdam
Leigh Griffiths remains one of Celtic’s top players despite the fact that he didn’t see much playing time before the break.
Griffiths has scored 10 goals and 8 assists in all competitions for the Bhoys this season. Both stats remain near top of the club which is pretty impressive considering that the 27-year-old has played less games.
Leigh is a talkative person too. He never really seems to hide his thoughts from the public, and usually promotes his word over Twitter or directly at the media. Griffiths seems to have a lot of dedication to Celtic, which gains some more love from fans at Paradise.
The attacker can add another fan to his list in Chris Sutton. The pundit recently spoke out and noted that he’s a “big fan” of Griffiths, but went on to say that he may not be good enough to potentially replace another player.
Moussa Dembele has taken over the front pages recently as publications continue to suggest that the Frenchman could be out of Glasgow in this window. Dembele has amassed 8 goals and 3 assists in only 21 appearances for the Hoops, while remaining to be one of Europe’s brightest prospects.
If the 21-year-old were to leave, Sutton believes that Griffiths wouldn’t be a good enough replacement for his absence. HITC took a portion of what he told The Record which is noted below:

"“Who would you replace Dembele with if he went? Everton have just forked out £27m to sign Cenk Tosun from Besiktas.“I’m a big fan of Leigh Griffiths but he’s had injuries and Celtic wouldn’t have that physical presence. Once Dembele gets a run of games I’m convinced he’ll get back to form.”"
To be honest, it’s a pretty decent assessment of both players. Dembele has picked up some games before the break, but failed to really produce much of anything. The same can be said about Griffiths who only canned a goal with his depleted minutes.
Sutton noted that Dembele needs more games to find good form, but arguably, the same can be said about Griffiths. At the beginning of the season, the Scot was an important piece of Brendan Rodgers‘ attack by constantly creating an array of high-quality chances.
Griffiths did take a knock towards the premier of the season, but that can really be an excuse as to why he isn’t getting regular minutes.
The analysis can easily be deciphered as to who Sutton believes has the proper skill to find the form. We’ll leave that debate up to the fans, but Griffiths has proved before to be a dangerous striker for the Celts.
If both players found time on the pitch more often, it could be led to believe that both can find form relatively quick. Fans will have to wait and see until the 20th of January as to who Rodgers thinks can be that threatening top striker for Celtic.
