Celtic surprisingly linked with Daniel Sturridge
By Nick McAdam
Celtic’s attack has been relatively decent this season. There are games when the Bhoys’ front-line don’t put out the best performances, but sometimes, they’ve looked unstoppable.
Celtic have yet to be linked with a true attacker in this window. Aside from Lewis Morgan (who is listed more in the midfield), there seems to be no indication of Brendan Rodgers having interest in another striker.
Yet, it seems as if the Hoops are putting all that aside as HITC suggests that the Glasgow side are after Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge is currently valued around 20 million pounds, but his form shows that Celtic could come in with a lower asking price.
The Reds have a set attack in place with Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. As a result, Sturridge very rarely sees the pitch of Anfield. The England national has made 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and assists in the process.
His form has obviously taken a huge dip, especially since the striker notched 8 goals in 14 appearances a couple of seasons ago. At the age of 28, the common knowledge is that the player will start to slow down a bit.
Celtic as usual aren’t the only club considering the signature of Sturridge. Rafa Benitez‘ Newcastle United are eyeing the 28-year-old as they currently sit in 13th place on the Premier League table.
HITC seemed pretty optimistic about a potential deal for Sturridge, noting that the Bhoys could be a “much better club”.

"Sturridge would be a blockbuster signing for Celtic, and there is no doubt that he would make the Hoops a much better team than they are at the moment."
However, the publication go on to say that the overall price of the out-of-form striker could be the biggest issue for both Celtic and Newcastle.
"The problem that both Celtic and Newcastle could face is Sturridge’s salary, which is reported by The Sun to be worth £125,000 per week."
Admittedly, I can’t completely wrap my head around why the Celts would invest into Sturridge. It’s been a long time since the attacker has played over 20 games, and he’ll definitely want starting minutes if he were to arrive at Paradise.
It’s not like Sturridge is a bad player, but he seems like a huge gamble at the moment especially considering his price.
Plus, if Celtic play Leigh Griffiths and hold onto the services of Moussa Dembele, it could be assumed that they should be good in attack for the rest of the campaign. However, we don’t know about potential injuries that can happen.
It should be an interesting development. As of right now, the Hoops seem to be the front-runners for Sturridge’s signature.
