Celtic Women have dipped their feet into the open market by adding a defender to the mix.

At the moment, the Hoops sit 4th in the Scotland Women’s Premier League, trailing Glasgow City by 14 points. David Haley‘s side have conceded a lot of goals in the process as their six losses on the season may indicate.

However, the Ghirls are still trying to make up some ground on the table while progressing to stabilize the backline. The Celts did just that recently when signing defender Keeva Keenan, who will join next season.

Keenan has already done quite a bit in her young career. She’s featured in eight total UEFA competitions, making 29 appearances while scoring a sublime to goals for the center of the defense.

More from The Celtic Bhoys

The 20-year-old stars internationally with Ireland, where she scored the game-winning goal against England in the U-19 UEFA Championship Qualifiers.

Celtic Women seem to be gearing up for the future as Keenan joins another young player in Claire Adams, who plays in a central defense role with the midfield. Adams also has some solid experience internationally with Scotland at the under-19 level.

Keenan is a Celtic supporter and now gets the opportunity to play for her favorite club, which she seems pretty excited about when telling the club’s website this:

"“As a Celtic supporter, I’m thrilled to be joining the club and playing alongside Irish internationalist Ruesha Littlejohn as well as the other great players in the squad.“The standards in Scotland and Ireland are similar, but I’ve found the games to be more competitive here. I was looking for a change for the new season and am delighted to have signed for Celtic.”"

The Celts keep getting more young in order to build for the future which is always great to see. Keenan comes as a very talented signing, and will be serve as a significant tackler alongside the rest of the defense.

The Ghirls are taking the initiative to improve the needed areas such as the midfield and defense; something the Bhoys haven’t been doing much of as of late.
