Celtic are looking for more young depth all over the pitch. Recently, Brendan Rodgers and the rest of the board have taken the initiative to lock up a young winger from Australia.

To go along with another reported signing in Lewis Morgan, the Bhoys have secured Leo Mazis from Belconnen United. The fee remains to be seen, but at the age of 17, it shouldn’t be something that will blow fans out of the water.

Mazis has scored 2 goals so far this season, but has amassed 13 tallies with a plethora of U-20 sides in his career. Reports have concluded that Celtic remained impressed with the youngster after his trial with the champions, and have signed him to a three-year deal.

The 17-year-old obviously won’t be seen on the pitch of Paradise that often, but expect to see him in friendly or cup competitions. Mazis could get his first slice of action against Brechin in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on January 20th.

The Australian follows Tom Rogic to Celtic Park who also featured for Belconnen United earlier in his career. Rogic’s 2 goals and 4 assists so far in the campaign suggest he’s doing fairly decent. Fans can only hope that Mazis can follow his new teammate’s footsteps one day.

More from The Celtic Bhoys

This Is Futbol provided some optimistic opinion on what they believe the future holds for Mazis with the Hoops.

"Celtic have previous when it comes to snapping up golden Aussie talent. Rogic joined from Central Coast Mariners after a spell at Mazis’ club Belconnen and has made a huge impact at Parkhead. If Mazis can follow in the imperious footsteps of his countryman and blaze a trail in to the first team, it could be a spectacular deal for the Hoops, who had a good look at the youngster during his November trial."

As mentioned before, regular minutes with Mazis shouldn’t be expected. But, several pundits and publications alike have titled Mazis as another wonderkid, which is always exciting to see when they decide to join up with Celtic.

One day the Bhoys are going to need players to backup Scott Sinclair and James Forrest. Fans will be proud that the Hoops have decided to take the action now to secure backups for the current players of today.

Will Celtic still need more in the middle of the park after the signings of Morgan and Mazis? Other areas of the pitch that need some attention in this window? Let us know in the comments section.
