A lot has happened around Celtic in order to get ready for the January window. In fact, one of the Celts’ desired signings may already be on his way to Paradise.

It was reported that Celtic were in on RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper. Now, it’s looking like the Bhoys are going to move closer to getting his signature on paper.

Multiple sources including Sky Sports have indicated that the 32-year-old defender has completed his medical for Celtic and it’s only a matter of time before Compper becomes announced. Assistant manager Chris Davies had this to say to the publication:

"“It’s not something that is done yet and obviously we’re not going to talk too much about a player that is not ours.“But he is a player who fits the profile for what we see as being a good centre-half."

The biggest downfall with Compper is that he won’t be eligible to play for Celtic against Zenit in the Europa League because he’s already featured for Leipzig this season in Europe.

More from The Celtic Bhoys

Add in the fact that he is 32, and it comes down to a move that doesn’t seem to make much since. Extra depth is always nice down the stretch, but Compper only has so many years left in him. Maybe Brendan Rodgers sees something the rest of us don’t.

On a more heart-warming note, the Hoops are getting more money.

The Bhoys could receive an extra 7 million pounds in their budget if former defender Virgil van Dijk. Virgil is definitely among the best defenders in the Premier League, and it’s reported that a plethora of teams are in on the Southampton center back.

Several sources including HITC have indicated how this money is going to fall into Celtic’s budget as a result of van Dijk’s potential transfer.

"The Daily Mail has claimed that this would mean that Celtic would receive a £7.5m windfall. That’s because the Bhoys are in line for a 10% sell-on fee, as reported by The Daily Record in October."

Money to add to the transfer budget should never be a bad thing, especially since the Celts have such a busy window ahead of them.

One of the stars of the past has come back to benefit Celtic towards the future. Now, it’s up to the Bhoys to use that extra money properly.
