RB Leipzig continue to play the “bad guy” role in the world of football ever so effectively. Ralph Hasenhuttl surrounds himself in the media denying consistent rumors of players leaving the German side.

There’s no lie that Hasenhuttl has done quite the job when keeping his players around for another season. Timo Werner was linked to Barcelona, Emil Forsberg was tied in with A.C. Milan, and Leipzig even held onto Naby Keita for another season before he goes off to Liverpool.

The fact of the matter is that Leipzig can continue to grow from within. There isn’t a necessity to sell your best players when the club is backed by the likes of the Red Bull energy drink.

Yet, Hasenhuttl can only hang onto his key players for so long. In fact, one of his defenders may find himself in a Celtic uniform soon.

Brendan Rodgers has been linked with defender Marvin Compper for some time now. The rumor mill boils even more since the January window dawns upon us.

Matt Law of Sports Mole notes that Celtic is the clear front-runner for the German defender.

"Celtic are in the driving seat for Commper, who will see his current deal with Leipzig expire at the end of next season."

It seems unlikely that Leipzig will sell in January, but Celtic could swoop in come next summer. Yet, Compper doesn’t find himself regular minutes that often.

More from The Celtic Bhoys

The 32-year-old has only appeared in 3 contests this season averaging 1 tackle on average for those fixtures.

The question then arises; do Celtic really need the services of Compper? At the age of 32, he isn’t getting any younger. The Celtic backline may depleted at the moment, but adding Compper can’t really be the magical solution for the defense.

Plus, the Leipzig defender won’t be able to feature in any Europa League competition. The Bhoys will still have to pay for his service, keep in mind.

There’s much better, younger defenders out there in the world of football. That’s the beauty of the sport. Clubs can look all over the planet to find their next big star. Celtic need to dig deeper into other defenders before spending money on a player that might not be the solution.
