A new feature that we’re going to bring to “The Celtic Bhoys” is a Q&A with former players and prominent Celtic supporting ex players and celebrities. We kick off this new feature with a Q&A with former England International, Trevor Sinclair.

What are your first memories of Celtic?

My first memory of Celtic was in the early 80’s, I can’t even remember the game to be honest but it was the support that amazed me. I’d only ever witnessed that previously watching the Kop end at Anfield on MOTD but to see it in the Green and White was incredible!!

Did you end up supporting Celtic because of that or was it a family member who passed it down?
My late mum was from Sligo in Ireland and my step Dad is Glaswegian and a massive Hoops fan so that was that but actually I played against Celtic boys as a 14/15 year old for Blackpool and we were passed off the pitch losing 4-0 at Squires Gate which only enriched my support and admiration for Celtic.

Did Celtic ever try to sign you?
I never heard of any interest from Celtic during my career but would have loved to have followed former team mates John Hartson, Ian Wright and from the England set up Chris Sutton at some stage in my career. I do actually think if social media would have existed when I was playing I’d have played for Celtic.

Do you have any Celtic memorabilia?
I’ve a Di Canio signed shirt which he signed for a friend I used to go to mass with in my Blackpool days which I told him I misplaced wink wink.

More from The Celtic Bhoys

Have you played at Celtic Park and what’s the best game you’ve witnessed there?
I’ve only played at Paradise once in a pre season friendly and plan to get to a game asap so I can only talk about the games I’ve seen on TV but with what BR has done to transform the football club in the current wealth some European clubs have id have to say the Man City 3-3 draw has to be up there. Also the Porto game in 2003 which although Celtic lost it was brilliant to see how many fans made the trip.

Who is your all time favourite Celtic player and why?
My all time favourite Celtic player has to be King Kenny but I’m also a huge admirer of Henrik Larsson with what he achieved and how he carried himself.

Finally Trevor, what do you think of the job that Brendan Rodgers has done at Celtic?

BR is IMO one of the best coaches anywhere, what he did at Swansea, Liverpool and is doing at Celtic now is outstanding. He completely elevated all 3 clubs and the impact he’s had in Glasgow has to be applauded. I actually think it will be very difficult for Celtic to hold on to him for too much longer as his DNA/style of play is so exciting and very much in the Pep mould.

The experiences that he now has under his belt has made him up there amongst the most highly sought after coaches in World football, his stock must be sky high. I called it when joined Celtic, that “he’d be a more humble and improved version of himself” and that’s exactly what he now is.

Next: Bhoys on Tour!

His Celtic team have an identity and style of play which the capacity of home fans at Paradise are loving and IF BR ends up leaving for a giant club they’ll continue to support him for what he’s done not just for Glasgow Celtic FC but also for Scottish football.

Thanks for taking the time to do this Trevor. It speaks volumes when a highly respected Gentleman such as yourself does this for our page and we look forward to welcoming you to Paradise soon Sir!! HH
