Yesterday we asked if Manchester City were just jerking Celtic and other teams around regarding starlet Patrick Roberts.

Today, we’ve got a report from the BBC that says Roberts wants a return to Parkhead.

The Scottish Sun also have the same report, but also note that Roberts would have to force the move because Man City believe moving to a different club would benefit Roberts more than a return to Celtic.

It’s a move that makes plenty of sense for the 20-year-old midfielder, as he was a huge part of Celtic’s invincible season last year. Overall, he was also able to grow on and off the pitch over the course of his 18-month long loan.

The BBC report also quotes Celtic assistant Chris Davies, who admitted yesterday that talks to bring Roberts in have never really stopped.

Reports yesterday also had French outfit, Nice, interested in bringing Roberts in on loan. However, with two big signings in the midfield — Wesley Sneidjer and Allan Saint-Maximin — it appears there really wouldn’t be a place for him on the squad.

More from The Celtic Bhoys

Celtic have both James Forrest and Jonny Hayes in the fold at right winger, but there’s no denying that Roberts is the best option possible.

Sure, Forrest has had his moments, ala his tie-winning goal in the previous round of the Champions League.

But, he’s also had some down moments and Roberts would give Celtic a more creative option in attack. His ability to break opponents down 1-on-1 is exactly what the Hoops need against teams that are likely to pack it in defensively.

After all, that was the formula that led to so much success last season while with Celtic.

Davies also made it known that bringing in Roberts would be nice, but not the end of the world either.

“We’ve got the players that are with us working and fighting right now, we’ve been scoring and creating goals, so if something extra happens then it’s all positive, but if not, we’re OK,” said Davies.

There still is the question about just how long the loan would be, but you also have to believe that Celtic would like to include an option to buy. It may just take that long to apparently negotiate the full terms of such a deal.
