It’s good to be Celtic these days. What, with a treble in the trophy case and an unbeaten domestic season already in the books. All of it in the first season under Brendan Rodgers’ rebuilding project.
So, it should be no surprise that some of the other biggest names in world football are being linked to our players once again. That’s especially true when a good number of those players are young stars like Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele.
However, it appears that Celtic fanboy turned star player may be the one with the biggest interest this offseason. That’s because Tierney is being linked to a big battle between Manchester United and Arsenal in the English Premier League according to The Sun.
Not only has Tierney starred for the Hoops, he’s also been in form as he stepped on the international stage recently as well. Tierney has held his own against the best England has had to offer in a tough World Cup qualifying group.
It appears the combination of quality play at the club and international level has really sold two of the biggest clubs in world football.
The interest of both clubs makes a lot of sense too. Manchester United can do a whole lot better than what it saw from first-choice left back Luke Shaw last season. Arsenal also need an injection of pace and productivity from its back line.
Tierney’s youthful energy and pride in his craft could also be a welcome injection to the training ground at the two clubs. Both have gone from teams full of life and flair to teams that have largely rested on their names as of late.
Just how serious are Manchester United? According to the Daily Mirror, the Red Devils sent up three scouts to watch him during the 2-2 draw with England in the past World Cup qualifier.
At 20 years old, Tierney has a big choice in front of him. So does the club.

Does Tierney want to stay at Celtic and hone his craft for another year or two under Brendan Rodgers? Or does Tierney want to challenge himself against some of the best players in the world on a weekly basis?
He certainly can’t guarantee the latter at Celtic, and that is a big strike against his boyhood club. Perhaps it buys the boardroom one more season, but the money that could be offered could be too much to pass up.
Celtic have allegedly put up a £15 million price tag on any Tierney move. It is a big price tag, but one that either Arsenal or Manchester United can easily meet this offseason. Will Celtic really let Tierney go for that or will they drive the price up in the hopes of even more interest in the coming transfer windows?
It may be that that answer is the one that will seal the deal for Tierney more than anything else. Getting that kind of cash in the coffers could set Celtic up for a few more years of improvements and squad building.
We’ll see if the rumors from The Sun and the BBC bare themselves out to be true. But for now, this move would certainly make big headlines around the footballing world.
