Yang has been in fine form over the last few months and has quickly become one of Celtic's most consistent players. It seems that he is just getting better as the season goes on, and now, he's had his say on everything from him almost leaving in the summer to him hitting form.
He said to The Celtic Way:
"It’s true, I was very close to leaving, but it doesn’t matter any more. The transfer window is something every player needs to go through. Just because that move did not happen doesn’t mean I was sad about it. It just motivated me to practise and prepare even harder here. I think you can see that in the games and in my performances."
Despite being close to that move, the winger is delighted to still be playing in the hoops. He said:
"I am very happy. All I want to do is focus on the team and trying to win every game. That’s what I have been doing and will continue to do.
This is my third season here. The first two seasons were hard; maybe I didn’t play as much at times. But I feel it’s easier now. I am more confident with the language, and I can communicate a lot better with staff and teammates. It has been very good."
Yang is a massive asset
It says a lot about the player that he didn't lose all motivation when the transfer move to Birmingham City failed at the start of the season. Sometimes, that can be enough to end a player's career at a club, but the fact that he has been able to come back even stronger is very respectable.
Yang scored an important double in Celtic's win over Motherwell at the weekend to ensure the Hoops remain in the title race, and it was an incredible moment to see him add to his tally twice. Hopefully, he can continue to keep up his good form as we head into the final stages of the campaign.
If he keeps up his form, there may be interest in him in the summer, but Celtic have the advantage going into any negotiations. Yang is contracted to the club until 2028, and he may even earn himself a new and better deal sooner than he may have expected. It certainly would be an extended deal that supporters would be over the moon with.
