Celtic fans will be delighted as Yang has put pen to paper on a new contract that will see him remain at the club until 2030. He has been finding his feet this season after a rough start in the hoops, and has quickly become an important member of the squad.

Since Martin O'Neill became manager after Brendan Rodgers and Wilfried Nancy departed the club, the South Korean has really settled in. He has been subject to a lot of criticism since joining in the summer of 2024, but no one can deny the impact he has had in the title-winning campaign this time around.

The winger has many accolades under his belt since arriving in Glasgow, winning three Scottish Premiership titles, one League Cup and one Scottish Cup. He has now expressed the love that he has for the Parkhead side and has spoken out about his ambitions going forward.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Yang said: "I’m so happy to sign the new contract. I love this club, and my future is here.

"I’m happy, and though the season was a little bit hard, we are Champions, and hopefully next season it will be easier.

"I also want to show better performances in the European games.

"I know when I play, the fans always supported me, and I’m really happy to be here, so I want to say thank you very much."

O'Neill was also delighted with the extension. He said: "I’m absolutely delighted, because on transfer deadline day he was down at Birmingham City, so I’m pleased that didn’t go through.

"Obviously, I didn’t know him at that time, but there was something about him in training that you felt he’s got a bit of something – he can go past players, he can deal with the ball, all those particular things.

"He maybe just needed a bit of confidence-boosting as much as anything else, but he’s done wonderfully well.

"It’s how you deal with the situations. I think that confidence is a major thing, and if you’re going into games with a lack of confidence as a wide player, and I know this myself, the last thing you want to do is lose the ball a couple of times. Because you just go into your shell and you don’t want to take people on in case you lose it again. What you’ll do is just do the safe thing and pass the ball back.

"So, a lot of that there definitely needs encouragement, but then when you know that you have it and you feel that people are on your side, that’s the lovely thing about it, and he’s done wonderfully well.

"The reason that he has done well is that he’s got big, big goals for us at big moments, and he’s brave as well.

"He takes the ball under pressure. The parts of his game that we talk about when we go through his clips each week, sometimes we ask, can you do this, can you do this.

"He’s super and he’s worked his way back into the South Korean squad."

Yang extending is a massive boost for Celtic

Yang extending his contract is huge for Celtic. He brings so much to the team, and now that he's finding his confidence, he could become unstoppable. According to O'Neill, he is a player who is trying to improve every single day, and when you have someone like that in the dressing room, it can transfer to other players.

He is also the perfect example of how we shouldn't write anyone off too soon. He was on the verge of a move away last summer, and now, he is a key member of the squad. There are many squad members still on decent-length contracts, and although some fans want them shipped out as soon as possible, it could be worth giving them another season.

It is yet to be seen who the next Celtic manager will be, but he'll certainly be bringing in more players in the transfer window, whoever it may be. Once that happens, we'll get a better idea of who is likely to stay and who is likely to leave, but for now, we can all be delighted with Yang extending his stay in Glasgow.
