Going into the first leg against Kairat Almaty, most Celtic fans were confident that the Hoops could get themselves a positive result at home. There are no easy opponents at this level but even then, this was being viewed as a winnable tie. But those thoughts might have changed following the game at Parkhead, as Brendan Rodgers' side could only manage a goalless draw and looked completely flat throughout.

Now, they will have to handle a long trip to Kazakhstan next week for the second leg and then win, if they are to make it to the Champions League. The situation will give the fans flashbacks of the club not making the competition for so many years. If that is repeated, it would not come as a surprise.

Of course, this is not the end of Celtic's worries. Another major one has to be the fact that Alistair Johnston was injured in the game against Kairat Almaty.

One of Celtic's most important players, Johnston's absence clearly had an impact on the team's performance in the remainder of the game. And now, there is an update on his status. As reported by The Celtic Way, Rodgers said:

"Yeah, I haven't spoken to the medical guys yet, it looks like a hamstring injury, which is disappointing. But yeah, I'll get more in the morning."

Worrying update for Celtic on Alistair Johnston's injury

Well, that is not what you wanted to hear if you are a Celtic fan. The extent of the issue remains unclear but it does look like Johnston might be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Johnston is an integral part of Rodgers' team. So, this injury makes things even tougher for Celtic, as they try to not only get into the Champions League but also deal with upcoming domestic games.

In his absence, Anthony Ralston is expected to start at right-back. There is very little chance that the club will go into the transfer market and try to sign a new player in that position. Let's see what happens.
