Celtic have spent about £3 million on transfer fees this summer. This is a club that is aiming for a fifth straight Premiership title, and fans hope to see them progress further in the Champions League. They have plenty of money in the bank and have even seen Nicolas Kuhn leave in a €19 million deal recently. In fact, it feels like even the Rangers have shown a lot more ambition in the market.

Things need to change. One can only hope that Celtic are not waiting for the two Champions League qualifiers to be done before deciding on the transfer budget, depending on whether they qualify or not. That is a line of thinking many fans have never understood. It feels very counterproductive.

One player Celtic have tried to sign this summer is Go Ahead Eagles winger Jakob Breum. They are believed to have made multiple offers to sign him but have not met the Dutch club's transfer valuation.

It remains to be seen if Celtic will go back and put in a fourth bid for a player who scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists in 26 Eredivisie appearances last season. But some recent comments about the player might worry the fans.

As reported by the Daily Record, former Ajax and PSV star Kenneth Perez said about Breum:

"I don't think he will ever play in the Premier League because he's too lightweight. Yes, he fits in well in the Dutch league because it's suited for him. He's a good player from box to box, smart and is clearly a good footballer. But these days when you look at what a player has to be able to do to make it as a top player, it's not enough. He should stay another season. I understand if a big club comes in for him, he will be interested, but he should stay another year at Go Ahead Eagles. He needs to change his training programme and put on some muscle. He could really use that."

Physicality is something that you definitely need if you want to succeed in Scotland. It remains to be seen if Breum is signed by Celtic or not. But this certainly raises a question mark about the player's chances of success, even if he is brought in.

That being said, one also has to point out that there were similar question marks surrounding Kyogo as well, when he was signed from Vissel Kobe. And it would be safe to say that he proved the doubters wrong and somehow. Great players find a way to succeed in different conditions.
