This transfer window has been a mixture of confusing and worrying if you are a Celtic fan. Truth be told, the Hoops did start well early, bringing in players like Kieran Tierney, Benjamin Nygren, and more. It felt like they were turning the clock back to the Ange Postecoglou era, when they were very efficient in the transfer market. But those hopes were clearly misplaced.
Celtic have not made any signings since the arrival of Shin Yamada. The league season has already started and their options on the wing are Daizen Maeda, Yang Hyun-jun and James Forrest. End of the list.
That's not the ambition you expect from a team looking to win their fifth straight league title. Celtic need to get deals done and quickly.
Yet, they can't even announce a loan deal that has been agreed for a while. Jahmai Simpson-Pusey at Celtic Park, in club gear, but there is yet to be an announcement. What is going on?
'Seriously worrying' - Celtic fans unhappy with transfer saga
Yesterday, Mark Hendry had posted that the Simpson-Pusey announcement was set to be made later in the day. The journalist is very reliable but on this occasion, even he was proven wrong. One can only wonder what the hold-up is all about.
Celtic fans are clearly not happy with how this entire situation has been handled. One wrote: "There has to be something seriously worrying going on at Celtic, can’t even announce a loan player days after he was spotted on the stadium in Celtic gear."
Another Celtic fan shared similar sentiments, writing: "Medical passed on Friday, at the game with Celtic gear on Sunday. Still nothing. Hoping they are waiting to announce him along with a surprise new signing. Nothing else makes sense."
A third added: "Is there a hold up? Clearance or something? Seems bizzare that he’s at the game, in the club gear ect, but hasn’t been announced?"
Now, we are really not worried about whether this move will go through or not. It most likely will. But the pace at which the club seem to be moving when it comes to getting deals done is certainly worrying. This has resulted in them missing out on targets, or making offers that are half what teams are actually looking for.
Let's just hope that the performance on Flag Day raises some concern at Parkhead and that signings are made quickly. One has to wonder if they are waiting for the result of the Champions League qualifier.
