It looks like all the confusion around the Celtic managerial situation is set to be cleared up very soon. Wilfried Nancy is set to be appointed as the club's new manager, as most would have been expecting. That situation has dragged on for the last few weeks but that is not because talks have stalled or collapsed. It just looks like a matter of getting everything done.
Now, it looks like we finally have loose timing on when Nancy will take over as Celtic manager. And that day is not far away.
As reported by Peter Martin on PLZ Soccer, Nancy's first match in charge of Celtic looks set to be the game against Dundee on December 3. The French manager is set to take over the Scottish Premiership champions on December 1, if not before, depending on the completion of contracts for four members of his backroom staff.
So, Martin O'Neill's final spell as Celtic manager is set to come to an end very soon. The club will take on Feyenoord in midweek before facing Hibernian away from home. Hopefully, he ends on a winning note and gets a terrific sendoff from the supporters, after answering the call in an hour of need.
Wilfried Nancy's first match as Celtic manager finally named
Many Celtic fans will not agree with the decision to appoint Nancy. The Frenchman might have enjoyed success in the MLS but he does not have any experience when it comes to managing at the European level.
Then there is the unique experience of managing Celtic. There are not too many clubs in the world where the expectation is to win every match. Not every manager can deal with that. Just ask the Rangers, who have to change managers every season.
The timing could be an issue as well, if the report is on the mark. There have been suggestions that it takes some time to implement Nancy's style of football. So, bringing him in right before an important top-of-the-table game against Hearts and the Scottish League Cup final against St Mirren, might be a risky move. Let's just hope that Celtic have gotten this right.
