Who will be the next Celtic manager? That is not clear. But for some reason, the news around the situation has gone completely silent. For a while during the international break, it had looked like the appointment of Wilfried Nancy was not only close but merely a matter of time. Is this because a move is close to taking place? Or has there been some twist in the tale?
The situation is far from ideal. Fans would like some clarity on the matter. But communication has been an area of weakness for Celtic for a long time. And after how the AGM turned out, they need to work on as soon as possible if they want to salvage the situation.
It is not just that the Nancy rumours have gone silent. There is literally no real talk in the media about other managers being potential candidates, either. On the other hand, Martin O'Neill does not seem keen to remain in the job longer than he needs to.
So, why are Celtic delaying the situation? Well, it might have to do with the compensation package they will have to pay the Columbus Crew to bring in Nancy.
Real reason Celtic are delaying Wilfried Nancy move will anger fans
As reported by CeltsAreHere, Andrew Smith of Celtic Underground shared what he had been told about the holdup on Sunday night:
"So I don’t think Martin [O’Neill] has any desire to be there one second longer than is necessary.
“And what we’ve heard is that once it tips into December the 1st, if you notice that Columbus Crew have said that their general manager has said there’s been no contact with Celtic, because apparently on December the 1st, who knows if this is true, the compensation package for Wilfried Nancy drops, and drops a quantum."
Well, that will not make fans happy about the entire situation. At the same time, it won't come as a surprise to anybody either. Celtic holding up the appointment so that they have to pay a smaller compensation package would fit what we have seen from the club over the years.
Of course, it depends on whether the information is accurate or not. Even then, many would actually prefer that O'Neill sees out the Scottish League Cup final. If he leaves right now, there is a risk that the team might lose their momentum, that they have built up.
