It did look like Celtic had found some form in midweek with a 2-1 win over Sturm Graz. But then, that game could have done more harm than good for the Hoops in the long run. Cameron Carter-Vickers is set to be out for potentially five months with an Achilles injury. Alistair Johnston and Kelechi Iheanacho picked up injuries as well and had to be subbed off on the night.
So, all things considered, Celtic remain in a bad spot. They were already out of form and now, they will have to navigate the upcoming games without three regular starters.
This season is turning out to be an absolute nightmare for Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irishman himself has been under some pressure lately, with many fans believing the time has come to part ways, whether it be at the end of the season when his contract expires or before that.
Interestingly, Chris Sutton now appears to believe that Rodgers wants out as well. He wrote in his column in the Daily Record:
"I'm starting to believe that Brendan Rodgers wants out of Celtic.
There, I’ve said it and I’m going to give the reasons why.
With every passing moment of this current malaise, that’s my belief. And do you know what? If that is the case, I couldn’t blame him one bit.
Obviously, he can’t come out and say it and he won’t walk away. Not when he has promised to stay for three years.thec"
'Wants out of Celtic' - Chris Sutton makes bold statement
Let's be honest, it would not be unthinkable for Rodgers to want to leave Celtic. Just look at how the summer transfer window turned out. The Northern Irishman clearly was not given enough backing to take the team to the next level. In fact, enough was not done to maintain their level.
And this is not the first time that Celtic have not done enough for Rodgers in transfer windows. In the past, there has been more than one occasion when he has spoken about what the team needs but that has not been delivered.
So, even Rodgers might feel that the time has come for the club and himself to go their separate ways. And if that was indeed the case, nobody can blame him for that.
