Celtic are set to travel to the Netherlands to take on Feyenoord this week. Their last meeting was not that long ago. The two teams faced off in the Champions League back in 2023, which was Brendan Rodgers' return season with the Hoops. Both teams won in their respective home grounds. But things have changed since then.
Both teams are very different. Celtic had won 2-1 at home against Feyenoord at home back in 2023, but both goalscorers on the night, Gustaf Lagerbielke and Luis Palma, are no longer at the club. Even Rodgers is gone, having quit earlier in the season. Away at De Kuip, they had lost 2-0 on a night that saw them pick up two red cards.
As for Feyenoord, they enter this game in bad form. They have lost their last three games on the trot, and four of the previous five. So, there might be a window of opportunity for Celtic to get a result here, despite their own struggles this season.
UEFA have confirmed the officials for the occasion. As reported by The Celtic Way, Sebastian Gishamer will take charge in Rotterdam, assisted by Roland Riedel and Santino Schreiner on each side. Alexander Harkam will act as the fourth official, while Marco Di Bello and Daniele Chiffi will be on VAR duty.
UEFA make Celtic vs Feyenoord official announcement
Celtic do not have a good record in Europe away from home. And the Netherlands is always a difficult place to travel to and get a result. So, let's see how this one plays out for the Hoops.
One would imagine that Wilfried Nancy will be keeping a close eye on this fixture. He is believed to be very close to being appointed the new permanent manager.
This could very well turn out to be Martin O'Neill's last game in charge of Celtic. So, let's make it a memorable one.
